Believers ought to obey all the commands of Jesus Christ. And in this lesson, we are going to talk about our first step of obedience to Jesus. The first step is critical because it determines the next steps – whether we are going to walk on the road of obedience or not.

Luke 7:29-30 (NASB)
29 When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they acknowledged God’s justice, having been baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God’s purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John.

The people and the tax collectors who were baptized with the baptism of John acknowledged God’s way and purpose for them, while the Pharisees and the lawyers who refused the baptism of John rejected God’s purpose for their lives. Hence, refusing to take the first step of obedience through water baptism is rejecting God’s purpose.
